Tom & Jerry (1973 anime)

Sapporo Animation

Original Run

September 2, 1973 - September 30, 1973

Sapporo Television Broadcasting produced Tom & Jerry anime series was a brief and unsuccessful attempt at adapting the original film series into anime. It was launched in 1973 on the STV network, and only lasted 1 month and ended with The Cat Concerto. After it was cancelled, Tom & Jerry remained exclusively as a short film series until 1980 when CBS produced and broadcasted a much more successful Tom and Jerry TV show, which still has new episodes being made for it until 1982.

It's worth noting that Tom & Jerry talked in this anime adaptation, which were less true to the MGM films. It also used a laugh track, which was possibly influenced partly by the early Hanna Barbera cartoons.
